The Stem Cell Transplant Process
The stem cell transplant process can be done in a number of ways. Common methods of administering stem cells at Stem Cell Institute include:
Intravenous (IV)
Intravenous, or IV, is a relatively safe method for stem cell transplantation throughout the body. While anesthesia isn’t required, a Lidocaine topical spray may be used beforehand on the area where the needle is inserted. This process usually takes 20 – 30 minutes to complete.
Intramuscular (IM)
Intramuscular transplantation, also known as IM, involves new adult stem cells being injected directly into the muscle. As with intravenous transplantation, IM has not caused any serious adverse events for any of our patients, and anesthesia is not required for this form of treatment.
Intra-articular (IA)
Stem cells transplanted directly into the joint are known as intra-articular transplantation or IA. It’s often used for the treatment of arthritis. Like the previous stem cell therapies in this list, it does not require anesthesia.
Stem Cell FAQ
If you’re interested in stem cell therapy then you likely have a lot of questions. From what it is to safety concerns, there’s a lot to consider before applying. At Stem Cell Institute, we want our patients to be as well-informed as possible. We believe this will help you gain peace of mind and have the best experience possible when you choose us for your stem cell therapy, which is why we have taken the time to address patients’ most frequently asked questions.
What Is Stem Cell Therapy?
Stem cell therapy can support the body’s repair response to injured, diseased, or malfunctioning tissue using stem cells or their by-products. Think of it as the next step in the evolution of organ transplants, only using cells rather than organs. Donor organs are in limited supply, making going to their source a more viable option for treatment now and in the future.
The stem cells used at Stem Cell Institute in Panama typically work in three main ways:
- Control inflammation
- Modulate the immune system
- Stimulate regeneration
The Golden Cells™ used at Stem Cell Institute are more robust and effective than ever before due to how we have refined our cell selection and expansion process over our 15-year history. Derived from human umbilical cords, some studies conclude that similar mesenchymal stem cells can tell the immune system to calm down, while also sending signals to the body to regenerate healthy tissue and heal.
How Long Does Stem Cell Treatment Last?
Most patients receive a minimum of three stem cell infusions over the course of their treatment. It’s important to keep in mind that individual cases will vary. These stem cell transplants normally reside in the body for about 6 months. During this time, many patients report improvements.
Our doctors at Stem Cell Institute are your partners long after your procedure is complete. We continue to support you after you return home with regular follow-ups to see how you are progressing. These follow-ups are scheduled at regular intervals so that we can monitor your progress, provide support, and answer any questions that you may have.
